Since 1998 both MAP and EIRIOL have developed and
provided a wide range of innovative mental health advocacy services
in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire with collaboration with Eich
Dewis Chi in Ceredigion.
Currently both organisations provide adult mental health advocacy
services to people who use the services of Pembrokeshire & Derwen
NHS Trust; Hospitals, inpatient and community settings; Prisons;
Secure Units; Private Sector providers; Housing Associations, the
3 Local Authority Social Services; and Adult Protection Teams. Both
organisations work as a priority with people detained under the
Mental Health Act 1983.
MAP provides a full time advocacy service for Older People
with mental health issues in Pembrokeshire, and the majority of
these clients have varying degrees of dementia with little or no
capacity to instruct. EIRIOL provides a part time service
for this client group.
MAP is unique in Wales in providing the first full time
independent advocacy service for Children and Young People with
mental health issues.
Both organisations and their services work with people with dual
diagnosis, people with learning disabilities, acquired brain injury,
people with early onset dementia, stroke and long-standing inpatients
in rehabilitation areas.
Working with some of the most socially excluded and disempowered
people in society both organisations have developed a wealth of
experience in working with people for whom communication and making
decisions is problematic and whose capacity is frequently questioned.
